Hello, dear readers. It has been entirely too long since my last post. So much has happened in our lives and our world that, well, I don’t know where to begin.
If you are a first-time reader, hi.
If you are a returning reader, hello again.
To give a quick recap, I started this blog back in 2016 when Sam was paired with his service dog, Memphis. We have been very blessed with Memphis. He is Sam’s best canine companion and protector. Memphis (and Sam) are graduates of This Able Veteran’s trauma resiliency class.
We have three children. Our oldest, Kirsten, will be heading off to college in August. I can’t believe I just typed that. Our middle son, Caden, will be going into 8th grade. Where does the time go? And, our baby, Oliver, is in daycare and growing every day.
In addition to Memphis, we have two other dogs, Kip and Archie. Our home is full of love, laughter, sometimes tears, and sometimes dog hair.
I have always had a soft spot in my heart for writing. I am not sure when I had the “A-ha!” moment of writing a blog, but I do know that I would take notes or simply make a list of questions, comments, or phrases people would say to Sam about being a Veteran with a service dog.
While Sam does not have any physical injuries on the outside, Sam does have invisible wounds of war. He continues to work on healing from his deployments and time in the military as well as navigating life daily. He is a Peer Counselor at the VA.
I work at our local community college in town with students from all walks of life: first-year or first-generation college students, student-athletes, dual credit (high school) students, and non-traditional students who are returning to college. I love my job and I have some pretty amazing colleagues.
I hope you will continue to walk with us on our journey. We share a little bit of everything here at Walking with Memphis. Be on the lookout for more content coming soon (soon as this week).
I’ve missed writing, sharing, and storytelling. I am glad to be back.
