Lately, I’ve noticed a lot of signs. Political signs line the roads, appear in in yards, some get removed, some stay up past election time…
Those signs drive me batty.
Some signs are good. Reminders of a speed limit, a good quote, a sale, hours of operation, you get the idea.
Then there are signs that are special. Some that come during a special time of year, some that make you stop and think, some that may even bring a tear to your eye.
Our town of Carterville has some special signs out. While there are signs for student-athletes that are pretty cool, I’m talking about the signs for Veterans.
On the streets of Carterville, signs with the names of Veterans and their branch of service line the roads.
I love that.
It’s hard to drive by and look at the names, to see the men and women honored, but this time of year, I drive slower through town.
Sam has a sign. Currently, it’s on the corner of Prentice Street. We drove by slowly yesterday.
I had goosebumps.
And when I see the names of people I know, people that are close to my parents, friends, I get goosebumps too.
These signs are special. I love them. I’m so proud that our town takes time for our Veterans. Getting the signs up, at a level for everyone to see, it is very heartwarming.
So, if you are local, or you are just passing through, take some time to look at these signs in Carterville. You may see a name or two (or more) that you know. You may tear up. You may be just as proud as can be.
These signs are my favorite. I love seeing them this time of year.
