Observer: a person who watches or notices something. Sometimes referred to as a spectator, bystander, onlooker, watcher, viewer.
In addition to being the mom, the scheduler, the planner, I am an observer.
This past weekend we took our camper out to Lake Rudolph at Holiday World. For those of you who don’t know, I am still a “newbie” to camping. Maybe it is more like “glamping” in our camper, but I am loving it.
The kids were having a blast. I watched them drive around on a golf cart, play in the swimming pool, make s’mores, and enjoy spending time together.
Oh. And I watched softball too.
As the onlooker, I noticed a few things about my family…
1. Sam absolutely loves camping. He is at peace, in his element, and loves being out on a campground.
2. Memphis is pretty good with camping as well. As long as he is with Sam.
3. We used our outdoor kitchen for the first time this weekend (I know, I know. In our defense, it was too cold in Colorado and Kansas City). It was really fun, and we had some really good food!
4. Our kids were relaxed and having fun. Their smiles, their faces said it all.
I could go on and on…
These things I know. Life is short. Make the most of every single day.
Softball weekends sometimes give us an opportunity to travel and go places we may not normally find or visit. We went to Holiday World (and sweat our faces off), we camped at Lake Rudolph, and we made memories. It is ALL about the memories.
Spending time with family (disconnected from tv/news/real world) is a lot of fun. We played games, we chatted, and we were OUTSIDE. That doesn’t seem to happen a lot: families being outdoors, away from technology. We laughed, we ate really good food, and we enjoyed one another’s company.
I watched Kirsten play softball with her teammates, and they played hard every single game. She did well, and her team placed second overall. Not a bad weekend at all!
I love being a bystander and taking in these moments with my family. In a way, I am taking mental pictures to remember these sweet moments we share as a family. <3
