This post comes to you from the Worlds of Fun Village. We are staying in our camper at a cabin, cottage, and RV resort in Kansas City.
For the “off season,” this is pretty cool. We are actually at a theme park, which is closed until April. When I walk outside I see coasters. And then I think how I might be too old to ride them.
Why are we in Kansas City?
Well, I’m here for C’s. 4C’s. The Conference in College Composition and Communication. I’m with “my people,” colleagues who have similar interests and research as mine. Friends that I see once a year at this conference. New friends I make during various sessions and networking.
I love it.
Our conference theme is “Languaging, Laboring, Transforming.” I spoke about this very blog, life with a veteran & service dog, and what it is like to be a military caregiver.
Our panel was fantastic, noting we’ve been entangled in a forever war, that children of military service members use literacy to connect and escape when parents go through multiple deployments, we talked about caregivers, the spaces created for us online, the types of conversations we can have, and I spoke about why I blog.
I have a story to tell. We are on a journey of hope, healing, and it is my hope that showing our real life can maybe help others.
While our panel presented, audience members were tweeting during our session.
I am just simply moved by these.
Yesterday was a good day.
Languaging with others was powerful.
Telling a story was important.
I can’t wait to see what today has in store.
