I will admit, I did not watch the majority of the Super Bowl. I did see some of the halftime show and I’m still processing that–deciding if I was impressed or not. I think I was in a fog of Lysol last night.
Our son has the flu. And if I’m being honest here…that freaks me out. The flu is no joke. I hate seeing him so miserable. I think my hands are a little sore from all of the washing. I cringe a little when I hear Caden getting sick…and my mom confession is that I don’t do vomit well.
Never have. Not even when I am sick myself. It is hard for a parent who has a bad gag reflex.
So, we prepared as much as we could (Caden got sick over the weekend). We bought all the Lysol, all the Clorox wipes, antibacterial soap, hand sanitizer, trash bags, and anything else you can think of that might help when you’ve got one with the flu.
Sam even thought about masks, so we’ve got a few of those.
So, today Caden is home with me. He’s napping now after a rough night and early morning. I’ve been cleaning things like crazy: washing his cups, washing hands, all the surfaces, doorknobs, countertops, bathroom sinks, anything and everything. Lysol has become my friend. Heck, this time of year a disinfectant could be anyone’s friend.
I’ve also been telling myself “I will not get sick, I will not get sick, I will not get sick…”
Liquids, liquids, liquids. I’ve been pushing the fluids, and he’s been responding well to that. Juice, Gatorade, water and hopefully some broth later. Tissues, children’s Tylenol and ibuprofen, Tamiflu, and cartoons…when he’s not napping. Oh, and a good thermometer!
At this point, I assume the flu is everywhere. If that sounds a little bizarre to you, I apologize, but when I seriously think about it, there are people out there who want to “power through” or “just step out for a bit,” and in all honesty, they probably should not. Germs are spread so quickly and so frequently it is hard to stay away from them.
I was up a lot during the night, and one of the good things (I suppose) is that I thought a lot about what I could write for the upcoming week’s posts. Another confession: I change up my writing schedule and theme for the posts a lot. Probably more than I should. I also planned menus for the week (even with a sick one nearby), and thought about lesson planning too.
I might be due for a nap.
Being sick is both miserable and a little boring (luckily I haven’t heard that word yet). Soothing items like a favorite blanket, pillow, and stuffed animal help. Netflix does too. And maybe some tea with honey.
