Time certainly flies when you are having fun…
And time is certainly not on our side at various moments in our lives.
Today I turn *cough* 38 *cough*…and my daughter is 15.
Jesus, deliver me. She wants to drive all the time. She keeps us busy with various activities she is involved in…and while there are weekends we are away from home, a weekend spent in a hotel (and hopefully a few to be spent in our camper), we wouldn’t have it any other way. Travel softball has allowed us to see parts of the U.S. we haven’t ventured to, meet people who have been like a second family, and of course, eat at delicious restaurants.
It seems like yesterday I was planning on heading to a junior high girls basketball state tournament game…and K had other plans.
The night before our birthday, I went to a shoot-around with our team. We were going to Rend Lake for the Class L state tournament the next day (Saturday). I was going to drive (ride) separately as the school bus wasn’t too kind to me on our away games. I planned to meet the team there.
I was excited for our girls, I went home and tried to relax, and then around 2 or so in the morning my water broke at home.
Go-time.
K was born at 5:59 a.m. on my birthday.
I wanted a vanilla Coke (which was a big thing “back then”) and a nap. My mom offered to go to the basketball game, where I’m sure she showed off pictures (again, technology was newer back in 2003).
Since then we’ve been on a wild and crazy ride called life…and I have loved the ups, the downs, the laughter, the tears, all the things. I can’t wait for what life has in store for K. She is destined to do great things, and I know she’s going to be successful no matter what.
Today we celebrate. My sweet husband is going above and beyond. You know you are told in marriage that there will be times you compromise…well, tonight we are going to one of my favorite places to eat (which is not one of his favorites at all). I am so excited…there’s good memories of a lunch date we had there (when it might have been possible he just went to impress me or spend time with me)…anyway, Thai Taste here we come!
We will have cake. K may even get her permit (pray for us, all the driving). It will be a good day.
Happiest of birthdays, sweet girl…I love you more than you will ever know.
