Memories are a Good Thing

September 28, 2017 by Cathrine Hoekstra

Do you love pictures and memories of certain moments in life? I do. I love seeing Facebook remind me of certain trips, events, and photos that I’ve shared on my page or with others. I love seeing moments that are significant in life come back around on a certain day.

The past three weeks our friends at This Able Veteran have been working with a new class of service dogs and veterans. This class graduates tomorrow, and I have all.the.feels. Every single one.

As you may know, Sam is a graduate of This Able Veteran. He was paired with the one-and-only, the beautiful and stubborn at times, Memphis. Made for each other, they tackle life together day in and day out.

I wrote a post about that…

The staff at This Able Veteran work their tails off. They prep, train, and work with these dogs non-stop to make sure they are ready for a life with their veteran. I can’t tell you how much these trainers love these dogs. I wrote about it. I’ll share it again…

So, this Friday (as in tomorrow), if you are local, head on over to Black Diamond Harley Davidson in Marion. You’ll want to be there for sure by 5:30, maybe a little earlier. Bring some tissues. Come see the work that so many put into this class and you’ll see that a community comes together to provide over a year’s worth of training, a trauma resiliency program, travel expenses and, service dogs at no cost to Veterans. That’s because of support from generous and kind folks who want to help out Veterans.

I’ll be there. Memphis will be there. Sam too (because let’s be honest, some people are always asking about Memphis before they ask about Sam). If you come, please say hi to us. 🙂

Memphis and his “gotcha day” cake from Mario’s Momma Bakery. This was at Sam’s TAV graduation. As you can see, he’s not interested in the cake…he’s looking for his dad. <3
