TGIF.
I am so glad today is Friday. For some reason, this seems like the.longest.week.ever. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that we leave for our vacation on Sunday…
Do you struggle to wake up in the morning? From time to time I do. I could drink coffee after coffee and still feel tired, sluggish, and go into nap mode.
Occasionally, Sam has the same feelings. Sleep is sometimes very hard to come by at our house, and some mornings at our house it seems as if we are in slow motion. We wake up before alarms go off, we wake up when we hear a small noise, and sometimes I wake up when I hear Memphis snoring (very human like, btw).
So while coffee may seem like a “cure-all,” there are mornings that it just doesn’t work that way. We try to have a morning routine to get us going. It actually starts with the night before…
Just about every night we prep for the next day. When the kids are in school, this is so.helpful. We prep lunches, clothes, and make a list. That’s right–a list. Sometimes the list includes things that need to be done for the day or groceries that need to be picked up.
With all the prep, we also make sure to get to bed around the same time every night. Does it always happen? No. And that is okay. With school looming right around the corner, we will get into the “back to school” routine rather quickly so we all have time to adjust. Any time there is a change in the schedule it takes time to adjust. Sometimes change isn’t that great for Sam–but it is something that we work on and try our best to adjust if necessary.
Saying no to snooze is key. In order to get up, get going, and stay on track in the morning we have to be cautious to not hit snooze repeatedly. It is hard some mornings because of weather, lack of sleep, or just wanting to do nothing. But, getting up and getting going is important and helps you to have a good start to the day.
Breakfast is a big factor of how the day will go. Most mornings we eat breakfast (and sometimes Sam even considers his coffee breakfast), but some mornings are rushed and it is a quick bite, a pop tart on the go, a breakfast bar, and yes, even a cup or two of coffee. Having a nice meal–cereal, oatmeal, eggs and bacon, bagel and yogurt–that can make a difference.
Our mornings can be chaotic. We had a busy one today. I do feel like I am ready for a nap, mostly because I keep thinking about all of the things I need to do today—however, taking a big, deep breath helps. Tackling one item on the list at a time helps. Coffee and breakfast—that is a good thing, too. And knowing that today is Friday—that really helps.
Happy Friday! FRI-YAY!
