I recently joined a group on Facebook for caregivers of Wounded Warriors. It is a nice community full of caregivers, spouses, and significant others who care for a veteran or wounded warrior. There was a post a couple days ago about a video that shows how every day sounds could possibly be triggers for Veterans who suffer from PTSD.
Noises that were heard in everyday life were triggers for some Veterans. At first, one may think the noises are from combat, but upon watching the video, you hear that it could be something as simple as an alarm or washing machine.
Folks, if you have ever wondered or thought about triggers, I encourage you to give this video a chance. It really will have you thinking about triggers, emotions, PTSD, and everyday challenges that our Veterans face. Also, this doesn’t mean every Veteran has these triggers or instances of being caught off guard by daily activities, some may be triggered, but not all.
The video comes from Operation Warrior Wellness (OWW), a division of the David Lynch Foundation. The mission of the David Lynch Foundation is to “fund stress-reduction programs for at-risk populations.”
You can watch the video and read the article that accompanies it here:
One of the important things to remember about understanding PTSD is that not everyone who suffers from it has the same type of reaction, the same triggers, or even the same memories that be war induced. Remember, a major contribution to help those who have intrusive memories, or want to share the stories: listen. Lift the fallen, help with healing.
