Today I’ve scratched my initial blog post (not really, I just saved it for another day). I have been thinking (especially since I witnessed it first hand yesterday) the impact a service dog (real service dog) can have on a Veteran with anxiety and stress.
Yesterday I was a co-facilitator of a writing group at the VA (say what you will about the VA, but this was a good experience there). I saw how Sam became a little anxious, his voice changed at times, his body language was different…and there was Memphis. Beside him, under the table or chair, alerting on him. Memphis really comes through during group.
This is not the first group that Sam has participated in with Memphis. They make an incredible team as they work with other veterans. I can’t imagine all the stressors that may arise at work for Sam, but I imagine that he has pretty good days with his furry best friend.
With that being said, here’s a previous blog post about man’s best friend. https://walkingwithmemphis.com/2016/11/mans-best-friend/
