Work related stress or anxiety can be a threat to your overall health and wellbeing. Have you ever felt overworked? Stressed out on the job?
Think of spring cleaning–you can clear the clutter from your house, garage, office, car…and your mind.
Crazy thought, right?
Taking care of ourselves should be part of our job–part of our routine. Sometimes we choose to avoid this type of cleaning and that can lead to suffering in silence because we are just “too busy.”
Overload, overworked, overtired…it happens. Being busy can sometimes be part of our success. When work is going well, when you are moving a mile a minute, and you have all the things to do, being busy might not seem like such a big deal.
Some tips I’ve learned (because trust me, I am one that can have too much on my plate, I have a hard time saying, “no” at times, and I just don’t know when to rest at times)…
- Try to avoid saying the word busy. Good things in our lives (like all the activities with our kids or families) shouldn’t be busy. Those are moments that won’t always last, friends. Enjoy the little moments, because sometimes little moments might turn into big moments.
- Try to manage your stress (PREACH). Your job may take a toll, but you should not let your body or your overall health suffer. This is something that Sam and I work on daily. “Me time” can help–whether that’s in the form of exercising, going to the gym, reading, simply sleeping well, sometimes being productive comes from a happy state of mind. Make balancing your life and your health a priority.
- Try to leave work at work and focus on the positive at home. Hard at times, right? I know that I can have time to grade at school, or work on writing (for research) at school–but sometimes it gets to come home with me–not that it is bad, but sometimes I need to step away from the computer or papers. Throwing yourself into work immediately can harm your productivity. I have to unplug. The first thing I do after waking is to check my phone–ugh. Unplug and unwind.
- Get plenty of rest and drink lots of water. Being on the go or constantly working sometimes we forget to pause and rest or pause for a quick snack or meal (I have done that, and it is the worst). Don’t forget to stay hydrated and take time to rest!
Now, I’m not a medical professional, a health professional, but I’m a working mom, wife, and person on the go. I sometimes learn lessons the hard way. Managing stress and taking care of myself sometimes gets put on the back burner…but it is so important!
Happy Monday—find the good in the day and the week!
My Monday (so far) finds me a little sleepy because I was at Opening Day with the birthday girl, Tally! Go Cards!
