This morning we are up early at our house. Normally a Friday morning (for me) consists of getting up, getting ready for the day, getting the kids to school, and enjoying some coffee/relaxing before school.
This morning is a little different. I am up and ready to go to Sam’s VA appointment.
This is not just a regular appointment, this is a therapy appointment.
Why is this a big deal? I don’t always get to accompany him on doctor appointments. The VA is almost like a one-stop-shop for some veterans. Sam can get all of his healthcare at the VA, he can schedule an eye appointment, get speech therapy, occupational therapy, and even pick up medication at the pharmacy. He’s covered for life there.
I’m proud of Sam for continuing his medical care, not only for health issues that may arise, but also for taking an active role in working toward healing through mental health care. PTSD never really goes away, it lingers, and some days are good days, some days are bad days. Demons come and go on a daily basis.
So today, I am going to my first VA appointment in mental health with Sam. Our journey still continues and today I’m anxious and nervous…but I also know there’s no other place I’d rather be this morning.

Hope your first therapy session was a positive experience. God bless you both. You have so many cheerleaders out here.

Thank you! I completely bypassed introducing myself to the therapist (because we’d previously met), but it was a good experience! Thank you! <3
