Serving Veterans

January 13, 2017 by Cathrine Hoekstra

About two months ago, my friend Tim, posted on his blog that he was looking for guest writers. I was intrigued. I read the email and thought about sending in an essay. I read the email again. I thought about a few topics…and then realized, this is the perfect time to write something about life with Memphis.

The email/blog post request about a guest writer was a spark for me to write this very blog. In my head, I always wanted to write about our life with Memphis, Sam, and the kids, resources for Veterans and families…so I figured I would try my hand as a guest writer.

When I got a note back from Tim that this would be published I cried. You see, I have always had some confidence issues with my writing. Crazy, right? I teach English Composition. I teach others how to write/develop writing skills, and I’m not even confident in my own writing at times.

His kind words and confidence in my writing gave me a boost, or push, to keep going with our story.

One small step for a blog—a guest blog post.

You can read the essay I submitted here. It is truly an honor to write and share these stories. Thank you, Tim, for the opportunity to share this with your readers.
