Honor

June 29, 2018 by Cathrine Hoekstra

Honor.

High respect. Esteem. Privilege.

Honor Wreaths for Veterans.

Organized to honor, remember, assist with special needs, and educate people about our veterans. Our purpose is to place wreaths on graves of U.S. veterans: maintain U.S. veteran cemetery plots; and other veteran charitable needs.

My friend, Jim Koonce, is doing amazing things to honor Veterans. Jim, and many volunteers, near and far, help raise awareness to honor Veterans by laying wreaths at the graves of those who have given their life to service. Honor Wreaths for Veterans is a fundraising group for Wreaths Across America.

These individuals help honor Veterans from various conflicts—remembering those who are devoted sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, husbands and wives.

Wreaths have been laid at Mounds National Cemetery. And over Memorial Day, flags were placed at the cemetery as well.

Honor Wreaths for Veterans need our help. They need our support. You can help by becoming a wreath sponsor. What a privilege to be able to sponsor a wreath! If you sponsor, you will help this organization–you can help them meet their goal of 3500 wreaths over 11 cemeteries. Mound City National Cemetery, Camp Bulter National Cemetery, and Rock Island National Cemetery are just a few where a wreath could be placed.

This organization is doing something that I think society sometimes forgets, especially during these difficult and trying times…honor, service, sacrifice. By donating and volunteering with Honor Wreaths for Veterans, you can make a difference. You can teach a child, or show a child how to honor these Veterans. We must remember those who have gone before us, who have helped us in so many ways, by giving back in this most beautiful way.

If you, your family, or your friends would like to sponsor a wreath, please contact Jim Koonce (jimkoonce60@yahoo.com) or by phone at 618-201-6636. You may also visit the Honor Wreath for Veterans website here: http://www.honorwreathsforveterans.org/

If you are on social media, look up Honor Wreaths for Veterans on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Give them a follow or a “like” and see the difference they are making by honoring our Veterans. I’m moved each time I see the photos and read the stories of those who volunteer and those who honor their loved ones, or Veterans. It warms my heart to see people doing good things for our Veterans and for our community.

This organization is making a difference…consider joining in their mission of honoring our Veterans. <3

Won’t you consider helping Honor Wreaths for Veterans meet their goal of providing 3500 wreaths? Become a wreath sponsor today.
