I Didn’t Watch Game of Thrones.

July 18, 2017 by Cathrine Hoekstra

I had a full weekend. The kids left for vacation/softball on Saturday, so if you could keep them in your good thoughts, prayers, and well wishes this week, that’d be great. They are enjoying Gatlinburg a great deal.

Saturday Sam and I looked at campers. Until two weeks ago, I had never been in/stayed in one. Boy, was that fun! I’m not ready to sell the house and live in a RV, but I’m ready to possibly own or travel in one.

Saturday my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Amazing. They spent the whole day together. I’m amazed at their relationship–they’ve been through so much, and they are prime examples, or rather, “relationship goals,” as the kids say.

Sunday I didn’t know winter was coming—meaning—I didn’t watch Game of Thrones. I have the book, does that count? I also don’t have HBO. Maybe one day I might watch, but, we didn’t take part in Sunday’s show.

I spent the evening with my husband reflecting on how lucky we are, how much fun we have (even if we don’t have elaborate plans), and how excited we are about our road trip vacation.

Have you ever made a plan to go on vacation, but you don’t have a plan?

This is us.

Colorado is the destination. I’m so excited for stops on the way. I can’t wait to take a break, get away, and hopefully stay in a camper. That’s right. I’m hooked.

So while the weekend was busy, it was nice to take time and pause. I think we should do that more often. More pause. Plan a day to watch your favorite show. Plan a date night in, or simply sit in “your chairs” and watch your programs.

Finding time to pause, for me, has been big. I’ve been finding time to write more, read more, and just breathe.

It is wonderful.

I love this crew. Can’t imagine life without them.

The pictures of your family are a treasure.
My son, his wife and their two children have a fifth wheel travel trailer. They go on excursions as a family many weekends for 3 of the 4 seasons during the year. Sometimes we stop in for an invited visit and they cook for us. You can see they enjoy the leasure time with each other. Their world is as hectic as you sometimes descibe too. The children will have many memories of camping all their lives. Hope you find that special RV that has your name written all over it!
